Sovereign Poll Dorsets won both the Ram and Ewe championships in the 2022 Dixon AG Qld All Breeds Champion of Champions which culminated at the Brisbane EKKA.
To be eligible, entries must have won a supreme all breeds title at one of a number of selected shows on the Qld circuit, including the EKKA. The winning ram Sovereign 44/21 was sired by Sovereign 40/17. The dam sired by Valley Vista 173/16. The EKKA Champion of Champions winning ewe was Sovereign 78/21, sired by Valley Vista 173/16. Sovereign AI lambs at just 3 weeks old. Sovereign has completed a small AI program this year with lambs on the ground in early May. At only about 3 weeks of age these lambs looked absolutely outstanding and were showing great length, growth and already developing muscle shape. They will definitely be the lambs we look to for the next show and sale season. Hopefully there will be a new sire amongst this group. More photos, and a video below of some of these lambs at just 3 weeks old. Chris Rubie with Supreme Champion ram of the show Sovereign 44/21 and Helen Harm from Helen Harm real estate Warwick, a strong supporter of the show. Sovereign Poll Dorsets sweep the interbreeds awards at Warwick. With a renewed desire across the industry for showing, there was an outstanding display of stud sheep that overflowed the Warwick Show venue on 19 March. Saturday morning the stud sheep judging began early with over 100 sheep paraded before the judge. Sovereign Poll Dorsets had an outstanding day and completed the double, taking both Supreme all breeds champion ram and ewe. The Interbreed pair of rams was again taken by Sovereign with two rams that the Judge said were very classy and very even.
Toowoomba Royal Show
Toowoomba Royal Show followed just days after Warwick Show however numbers were down due to several reasons. Sovereign again secured supreme ram of the show with another ram Sovereign 49/21. Both these rams will be on display at the Brisbane Royal Show as they compete in the Champion of Champions for the Queensland Meat Sheep Ram of the year. With extensive flooding around the region there was some thought from breeders and the Elders agents to cancel or postpone the sale. With some fine weather for a couple of days around sale day it was decided to proceed.
Despite a lot of clients being unable to attend Sovereign offered the usual 20 rams. It was very pleasing to have a total clearance of our rams under these circumstances. This included 9-10 month-old ram lambs that averaged $1050. Following this sale, rams have been sold around the region and to clients unable to attend due to the flooding and again into central west Queensland.
Prior inspections are welcomed by appointment 7-18 February. The sale is on Friday 25 February 2022. Inspection from 11am and sale starts 1pm. Contact Chris for further details 0497094179 or [email protected] See photos and videos below of the rams for the 2022 sale.
This was a very strong result and reflected the demand that can be achieved with the right product. These lambs came from Taylor Pastoral “Boree Downs” Longreach. The Taylor’s have now purchased additional rams to increase their numbers and to take advantage of the opportunity for a quick turnaround into the first cross store lamb market. Sovereign excelled in an abbreviated 2021 show season. The Toowoomba Royal Show is the premier show for meat sheep and again Sovereign claimed Supreme all breeds ram and pair of rams. Earlier in the year Sovereign had also claimed supreme ram all breeds at two local shows. For the delayed RNA competition Sovereign exhibited the supreme ewe all breeds with a beautifully balanced ewe lamb. The inaugural RNA Dickson Ag Champion of Champions competition was also held and Sovereign 6/20 was awarded the meat sheep ram of the year. Sovereign 6/20. To be offered at the February 2022 ram sale in Inglewood.
This year we are offering 20 rams at the Inglewood sale on 26 February. We are very pleased with the rams as they have done exceptionally well despite drought conditions. With an improved season for the last 3 months they have finished easily on pasture and are showing good carcass shape.
If you require any assistance or further information regarding our sale rams please phone Chris on 0497094179 or the selling agent Peter Sealy of Elders Toowoomba 0428 626 959 Below are photos and videos of the rams selected for this sale. Sovereign rams heading to Western Queensland. With the long term outlook for prime lamb being very strong, first cross lambs provide the opportunity to maximize profits. Wool growers can quickly enter the market without compromising their wool clip. Sovereign Poll Dorset rams fit easily into these programs and provide the following benefits.
This helps your business know what you can expect when you purchase our rams. We know with our rams you can target both the trade market and the heavy export market. Here are a couple of examples for our own freezer. Both lambs were straight from the paddock with no supplement. Export lamb straight from the paddock - 33kg carcass weight. Excellent muscle definition.
Sovereign Poll Dorsets again offered 15 rams at the 2020 Annual multi-breed ram sale at the Inglewood showgrounds, Queensland. For the four years that the sale has been running Sovereign has had a total clearance. This year a top price of $1700 and average of $1326 with no rams selling below $1000. This multi vendor annual sale is held on the last Friday in February and with a number of regular buyers totally destocked and only a very recent break from the devastating drought it was very difficult to predict how the sale would hold up. A smaller crowd than normal was in attendance, however there was strong demand for our Poll Dorsets. Following the sale we immediately negotiated another 14 rams from our paddock sales. It was very pleasing to see return clients and some new buyers in attendance. Again the total clearance of our Poll Dorsets and strong after sale demand supported the fact that Poll Dorsets are the preferred terminal sire for the prime lamb industry. Sovereign Poll Dorsets will be offering 15 rams at the multi-breed ram sale on 28th February at the Inglewood showgrounds in southern Queensland. Despite the district’s worst drought on record, (dating back to the late 1800’s) the rams have held up well and shown their strong constitution. Supplementary feeding has been a must despite our long held practice of grass/pasture fed only. We have included a number of photos and videos of the sale rams in this update. The sale rams have had a full program of vaccination and will be drenched just prior to sale day. As usual the sale rams will be from our May/June and September/October lambing periods. These rams are sired by our stud sire ‘Valley Vista’ (173/16) purchased in 2017. Like his progeny he has shown tremendous constitution and capacity to withstand these extremely dry times. A couple of photos of him have also been included in this update to show him in his working clothes. He has been running with the younger rams and received no special feeding. Despite this being his third joining he has retained his tremendous capacity and carcass shape (bred in not fed in). Should you require any further assistance or further information regarding our sale rams please phone Chris on 0497094179 or the selling agent Peter Sealy of Elders Toowoomba 0428 626 959 Sovereign Poll Dorsets have rams readily available for paddock sales in all selling seasons throughout the year. This is because we have two lambings each year; the first in May/June and the second in September/October. These rams are generally grass or pasture fed, and only supplemented in the most difficult times. The top 20 rams are reserved for the annual mixed breed flock ram sale in February at Inglewood, Queensland. The remainder are graded and available for paddock sales. If required, delivery arrangements can usually be made with trucking companies operating into and out of Warwick, Dalby or Toowoomba sale yards. Please contact Chris for more details about the rams available for sale. Sovereign Poll Dorsets had another great year in the show ring. Winning supreme ram, ewe and group at the Warwick show.
