Sovereign has completed a small AI program this year with lambs on the ground in early May. At only about 3 weeks of age these lambs looked absolutely outstanding and were showing great length, growth and already developing muscle shape. They will definitely be the lambs we look to for the next show and sale season. Hopefully there will be a new sire amongst this group. More photos, and a video below of some of these lambs at just 3 weeks old. Sovereign Poll Dorsets sweep the interbreeds awards at Warwick. With a renewed desire across the industry for showing, there was an outstanding display of stud sheep that overflowed the Warwick Show venue on 19 March. Saturday morning the stud sheep judging began early with over 100 sheep paraded before the judge. Sovereign Poll Dorsets had an outstanding day and completed the double, taking both Supreme all breeds champion ram and ewe. The Interbreed pair of rams was again taken by Sovereign with two rams that the Judge said were very classy and very even.
Toowoomba Royal Show
Toowoomba Royal Show followed just days after Warwick Show however numbers were down due to several reasons. Sovereign again secured supreme ram of the show with another ram Sovereign 49/21. Both these rams will be on display at the Brisbane Royal Show as they compete in the Champion of Champions for the Queensland Meat Sheep Ram of the year. With extensive flooding around the region there was some thought from breeders and the Elders agents to cancel or postpone the sale. With some fine weather for a couple of days around sale day it was decided to proceed.
Despite a lot of clients being unable to attend Sovereign offered the usual 20 rams. It was very pleasing to have a total clearance of our rams under these circumstances. This included 9-10 month-old ram lambs that averaged $1050. Following this sale, rams have been sold around the region and to clients unable to attend due to the flooding and again into central west Queensland. |
